Quality Design Engineering and Testing
UNAFLEX’s® manufacturing plant is located on 55 acres and housed in a 117,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in beautiful Anderson, South Carolina. Conveniently located minutes from Interstate 85 and centered about 1½ hours between Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina. This location is convenient for prompt shipment of our products to better serve our customers. Our state-of-the-art equipment enables us to manufacture joints of virtually any form and design, independent of the size of the duct.
Our Quality Control Program is rigorous and ISO 9001:2008 CERTIFIED which ensures a high level of quality and uniformity throughout the manufacturing process. We utilize the latest computer software and methods for the design, construction and testing of complex expansion joints. UNAFLEX® also complies with Government requirements for MIL-I-45208A, the US Coast Guard, and FSA standards.
Our testing procedures include:
- Temperature distribution in steel components and insulation
- Measurement of the gradient of both pressure and stress in steel components
- Gauging the heat loss in the complete expansion joint
With the results of these analyses, we are able to better calculate the expected service life of the expansion joint, and therefore optimize its design and choose the most suitable steel quality.
UNAFLEX® maintains a complete full service laboratory for testing and analysis of non-metallic materials. UNAFLEX® strives to improve existing materials and finding new materials in cooperation with material suppliers all over the world. Additionally, we stay abreast of technical advancements so that we may use our many years of experience and practical know-how to develop new expansion joint types for specific applications or unique customer needs.
Our test and development departments are optimally suited for that purpose with their modern equipment. Combinations of various materials and designs are tested for endurance and fatigue. Recommendations and limits for actual operating conditions are established, and the quality of our expansion joints is constantly maintained at the highest possible level.
Our highly skilled personnel have over 100 years of combined experience in the expansion joint industry and are actively involved in setting industry standards through organizations like the FSA (Fluid Sealing Association). UNAFLEX® welders are certified to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Section VIII , Division I and also maintain membership in NAHAD, the Independent Sealing Distributors and American Waterworks Association.
UNAFLEX® has been a contributing member of the FSA since 1974. The FSA is the International Trade Association comprised of manufacturers of fluid sealing products. Their goal is to be a source of information, education and standards for the end-user in reference to the sealing industry.
